Understanding FAFSA

What is FAFSA?  Who should fill it out?
FAFSA is the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. It's a "form completed by current and prospective college students in the United States to determine their eligibility for student financial aid."

Why is it important? Who should fill it out?
It's important for EVERYONE ELIGIBLE to fill out because it helps determine how much financial aid you are eligible for, that includes grants and loans. Even if you don't qualify for financial aid because your parents make too much, it will still make you eligible for federal loans which have lower interest rates than most private loans.

If you're an undocumented student click HERE for answers about financial aid since the FAFSA requires a SSN.
